Annika Kuhl graduated from the Märkisches Gymnasium in Schwelm (North Rhine-Westphalia) and studied acting at the Bochum Drama School (formerly the Westphalian Drama School). She made her debut in 1996 at the Schauspielhaus Bochum, whose ensemble she was a member of until mid-2000.
Kuhl lives in Berlin. She is fluent in French and English and has worked with her ex-life partner, director Leander Haußmann, as well as Werner Schroeter and Claus Peymann.
With Haußmann she has two daughters, Edwina Kuhl, born in 2010, and Kunigunde, who is seven years older.
